Social work isn't for the faint-hearted in these parts. Not only does one encounter all manner of social challenges, but the tools available to solve them are relatively few.
Amanda joined us in January 2017 as an unpaid volunteer, but has since been stipended by the department as a social work intern. She is a Walter Sisulu University graduate and her particular interest is the social causes of mental illness. Her favourite quote is "Be who you needed when you were younger and who you might need when you're older." Her love for singing is infectious; her presence energises the department.
Sive grew up in the Hospital's catchment area and studied social work at Walter Sisulu University. It's great having her join us in making a difference! She, too, has a stipended position - working part time in the hospital and part time with NGO partner Axium Education. She enjoys working with children - both primary and high school kids - and appreciates the chance to be a guide to them.
