Occupational therapists
The occupational therapists make a tremendous difference to the lives of people with disabilities. From stroke patients to children with cerebral palsy, they’re improving their quality of life in the hospital and through community outreach. An example of the creative care they offer and how it makes a difference is the Hope Therapy programme. Click the link for details. Shannon Morgan
Chief Occupational Therapist Shannon, who trained at UCT and did her community service here, was appointed as our Chief Occupational Therapist in 2010. In her time here she has been a makeshift physio; she also doubles as our (untrained) psychologist with her mediation and counselling skills! But her real passion is improving the access of disabled people to community and hospital based rehabilitation services. |
Lisa McGowan
Occupational Therapist Lisa, a UCT graduate who has stayed on at Zithulele after doing her community service here, is the queen of playtime in the paediatric ward. The kids love her cleverly constructed games which get them to have fun and develop at the same time. She, in turn, loves the kids and has even had birthday parties for some of the ward’s long stayers! |
Jessica Hall
Occupational Therapist Jess joined us at the beginning of the year for community service, after graduating from UCT. Her particular interest is OT in mental health; there is much to be done in that field. She looks forward to the challenges of improvising and being resourceful - character traits that are sine qua non when it comes to rural rehab! |
